WATER CRISIS
The way out of the water crisis in Luuka is not simple. It is a big challenge that needs a big answer. The water crisis is only going to end when we all work together, with the district leaders, with the communities that we seek to serve, and with YOU. Only through deep commitment and collaboration, will we be able to get to the bottom of this challenge.
For many years, the residents have been using dirty water for drinking, cooking and washing which has put their lives at stake. In many rural areas of Uganda, access to clean water is still a distant dream. In this case, our children journey several kilometers while searching for clean water.
In the above process, children miss SCHOOL because they are either sick from water borne diseases or busy collecting water for home use. Children suffering from waterborne illnesses and then missing out on school has kept this horrendous cycle of poverty going for far too long.
To combat waterborne diseases like diarrhea or cholera we must make sure there is access to clean water. Drilling of boreholes helps our communities that dream about safe water.
The situation is really appalling and we still have a long way to go as we continue to lobby for funds to improve the lives of our orphans and the entire community at large. There is a huge need to be able to guarantee provision of certain basic needs for our orphans, clean water being a big one.
Safe water exists a few hundred feet from where one of the orphans, Grace Napete currently lives, but accessing it requires drilling a borehole. If this borehole were to be drilled it could be responsible for saving the lives of thousands of people.
You can help save lives by helping make clean drinking, cooking and washing water accessible in Luuka.
