Now that it’s January 2019 we wanted to share with each of you Hope for Orphans Organization-Luuka’s upcoming goals! It wasn’t very long ago that one of our (now) directors asked, “What are your goals? What is the next big thing you want to do with Hope for Orphans?” we quickly responded that we would like to acquire property and work up to building an orphanage. Little did we know that less than two years later not only would we have 2 acres of land, but our first orphanage, 2 toilets (outhouses), and a chicken coop would be built, a well dug, two heifers (cows) bought, and many other things would be moving forward. Now we’re ready to face the question again. What are our goals for 2019? Well, here they are:
WATER PROJECT

We need to buy/install a fence, because now that we have been able to move forward so quickly, we have jealous neighbors and thievery has become an issue. Also, sex trafficking is on the rise and we need to protect our children. We would also like to build a wall on the front side of the property. It would be a dream to have even better security and to get a good guard dog and even hire a guard someday, but for now we hope for funding for a fence and wall. To construct a kitchen. In some parts of the world people have indoor, westernized kitchens, which sound wonderful. For now, we hope to build a small brick building with a metal roof, a chimney, no floor, just an area to cook out of the weather. When it rains for days on end we currently go hungry. Unlike a first world country, we are unable to afford/buy most prepared meals or snacks and we don’t have refrigeration. When provided, we usually have uncooked grains, so imagine starting a fire in the rain to bring water to a boil to cook those grains! With an indoor kitchen, we’ll be able to consistently prepare meals for the children no matter what weather we’re experiencing. This project will cost us around $860. Finding sponsors for the children. Currently, only five of our children are sponsored. Each year there are many expenses for each child. Schooling costs are around $480 per child. Here in Uganda the schools are mainly what people in the U.S. call boarding schools. The children live there at their school grounds, except during breaks. They eat there, need to have all their school supplies on location, need their toiletries, etc. Many children don’t get to attend school due to the high costs. However, if the child has a consistent sponsor, they receive consistent schooling, food, toiletries, and get all their needs met. It’s really important that we find sponsors for all the children. Click here if you’re interested in sponsoring a child!
Finding consistent funding for food. We like to keep the orphanage stocked with a few necessities food-wise. The poor, bare minimum diet here includes a lot of corn flour (maize). We like to always have that on hand along with beans, Silver Cyprinid fish, and rice. We work on growing crops on the land, but sometimes weather causes issues and we have already experienced the weather killing one of our crops in the short time we’ve had the ability to grow our own food. Droughts, as you know, aren’t good for farming. So, it is very important that we always have food on hand for the children. If you feel led to help in this area, please click here. We are currently out of all of our food supplies at the orphanage. Any amount helps!
Running electricity to the land ($2500). It would be really helpful to have electric lighting for the orphanage, the well, and more. Click here to bring electricity to the children of Hope for Orphans Organization-Luuka!
Buy more land ($5500) and built a school. Our dream would be to get more land and build a school in the future. It would be amazing to have a school with a westernized kitchen someday. That would take having a septic system put in and enough running water to be able to keep our septic system healthy. It would take many steps and a lot of funding to get to that point. We will be very excited to just get to the point of a schoolhouse someday, because that would mean consistent schooling for the children and a huge savings due to the previously mentioned costs of our schools.
So, that is our goals in a nutshell. We hope that as we enter 2019, you will come along our side and help us begin meeting our goals to provide for these precious children. We would all love for you to visit and help us on projects and spend time with the children as well! Thank you for all you do and have a wonderful 2019!
