Meet Shaminah Mugaba – a determined 11-year-old and flourishing pupil.
She lives at Namalemba Village in Luuka district and with her single mother, four siblings, both of her parents didn’t complete much schooling, but her mother hope for her daughter to graduate high school and attend University someday.
Mugaba receives good grades at school, but it doesn’t stop there. She walks about 4km everyday going to school (both to and from).
She says if she had a chance to join boarding section at her school (Kiyunga Parents p/s) it would help her perform extremely better.
“My mother wakes me up at 5Am everyday to prepare ourselves for school; our journey to school kick off at exactly 5:45am so that we reach school by 7am”. Mugaba says.
Mugaba narrates that on weekend together with her mother they have to attend garden. It does not stop there, but in most cases they go on and dig for people in order to get food and money to pay school fees for her siblings.
However, Mugaba being a beneficiary at HOPE FOR ORPHANS ORGANIZATION-LUUKA (HOOL), she appreciates the care and support being extended to her and her family at large.
Education opens countless opportunities for Mugaba that her parents never had. We can’t wait to see all that this little girl undertakes in the future!
